Louisa Lorang

September 2024

In the heart of Copenhagen, amidst cobbled streets and colourful façades, you'll find Louisa Lorang – a woman representing creativity, passion, and the courage to be herself. As a chef, cookbook author, TV personality, and mother of three, she is a storyteller who touches and inspires with her stories.

My culinary passion began early in life and has taken me on an exciting journey through kitchens and cultures worldwide. I have managed to combine my interest for food with my ability to convey stories through both words and recipes. My cooking is not just a series of recipes; it is a manifestation of my life experiences, cultural encounters, and personal journeys.

After completing my culinary education, I cheekily wrote to the weekly magazine Femina with suggestions to improve their food pages. Shortly after, I was invited to a meeting, and although I was heavily pregnant, I took up the challenge and started writing and developing recipes for the magazine. This was the beginning of a career where I have been able to combine my passion for food and writing.

“I love travelling for food experiences and finding inspiration in different cultures. Food is a fantastic way to experience a country, and I love trying new dishes and techniques.”

When I travel, I always seek out authentic food experiences, and I often return home with suitcases filled with exciting ingredients and new ideas. My cooking is varied, but I have a particular fondness for savoury dishes. I am a strong advocate for eating seasonally and locally and believe that as a society, we should rediscover the joy of eating food that tastes of the season it comes from.

“I don't have a specific favourite dish, but I love simple things like seafood, cheese, and good bread. I crave different things at different times and let myself be inspired by seasonal produce.”

However, my life is much more than food. I am a mother of three children, and I have managed to find a balance between my professional life and my family life. Together with my husband, I have created a daily routine where the children are a natural part of my work life, and they often accompany me on trips and food experiences. We describe ourselves as a circus, where everyone helps each other and makes everyday life work.

“I have been fortunate with a supportive husband, and we have always been a unit. The children have followed me to work, and we have found a rhythm that works for us as a family.”

I am a huge fan of Copenhagen and love the city. When I have been away, whether in Denmark or abroad, and return to the harbour and canals, I feel at home. At the same time, I also love travelling and finding inspiration in other cultures and cuisines, which is reflected in my cooking and my creative projects.

Masai stories

Masai stories are about women's lives and the beauty and strength that emerge when life's passions are allowed to unfold, and when one chooses to listen to oneself and do what one dreams of.

Masai stories are portraits of committed and passionate women - women who inspire us every day. The stories are about diversity, openness, about courage, and not least about the freedom to be and choose oneself.
